Congratulations on your new home! You may be all moved in, but that doesn’t mean you can’t extend the festivities a little longer! It's time to celebrate this milestone with a housewarming party.

Whether you're a seasoned party host or a first-timer, check out these housewarming party tips and tricks for planning a memorable one that reflects your style and hospitality.

1. Choose a realistic date

A host can’t entertain if they still have boxes to unpack. Before you send out the invitations, make sure to choose a date that allows enough time to settle into your new home amongst work and other commitments.

2. Have a theme
Selecting a theme will add a fun and cohesive element to your party. If you’ve moved in during autumn, why not try a costume party for Halloween? Conversely, a casual backyard BBQ is a perfect choice for summer. It doesn’t have to be a seasonal-do either – perhaps you’d enjoy a party that reflects your interests, or a general design aesthetic. We personally love to use string lights and candles to create that cosy, inviting ‘Hygge’ effect. Use your housewarming gifts - houseplants, flowers and candles - to your advantage for a fresh and finished look.

3. Create a simple menu
Finger food like crisps, cocktail sausages and cut veggies with dip are perfect for a busy party and are always a firm favourite. These foods are easy to prepare and refill where you see fit, all while entertaining and chatting to your guests. Conversely, perhaps you’d like to lessen the planning-load, and request your guests to each bring a dish – who doesn’t enjoy a bit of ‘Come Dine with Me? Or if you’re looking to show off your new neighbourhood a little, try ordering in some food from a local restaurant. Don't forget beverages – soft and alcoholic.

4. Arrange entertainment
This can be as simple as setting up a shared music playlist or encouraging guests to mingle. Don’t forget to capture the memories! Polaroids are all the rage. These activities will create lasting memories and ensure everyone has a great time

5. Don’t overthink it
Try to keep things simple and achievable. When accounting for the different arrival times of your guests, planning too many activities may be difficult. And don’t forget; the grand unveiling of your home is an exciting event in itself - your guests are here to get together and enjoy your new house.

Put on your party hat, let the celebrations begin, and enjoy the journey of making beautiful memories in your new home (with the help of some new home gifts from your guests!)
