We held an art competition for local Cambridge artists to help us launch our brand-new showhome at our Waterbeach development in Cambridge, which features products from local independent producers and retailers as part of our Showhome of Support initiative.

Supporting local Cambridge artists

We teamed up with the esteemed Cambridge Drawing Society to bring a bit of culture to our brand-new Waterbeach showhome.

This competition wasn’t just about the launch of our new homes in the Cambridge area but it also aimed to support the local community and give talented artists in Cambridge a chance to showcase their work.

We sent out invites to more than 200 members of the Cambridge Drawing Society, asking them to take part. In return, the winning pieces would be on display for all to see in our stunning Waterbeach showhome.

After some tough deliberation, Simon King-Underwood stole the show with his contemporary charcoal powder artwork titled 'Ridgeline.'

The competition was incredibly close, so we awarded another Cambridgeshire artist, Helen Clarke, a well-deserved runner-up prize. Steve Ashman, the Honorary Secretary of the Cambridge Drawing Society, said: "Cambridge Drawing Society was honoured to be invited by Cala Homes to participate in its art competition associated with their new homes at the nearby Waterbeach development. Many congratulations to Simon and Helen."

Working with Independent Waterbeach Retailers

Our Waterbeach showhome displays several products from local independent producers and retailers as part of our ongoing Showhome of Support initiative, further championing local talent and giving the showhome an identity that is unique to the Cambridgeshire area.

Louise Johnson, Sales Manager of our North Home Counties team, expressed her enthusiasm, saying: "Our showhomes have hundreds of visitors every year, so there will be a lot of eyes on these impressive pieces of art. At Cala, it’s all about connecting with the local communities in which we build, and that’s why it's so important to showcase local independent retailers in our Cala showhomes. And if we can support local businesses and artists in Cambridge, giving them a stage to shine on, you can bet we will."
