Named one of the UK’s best places to live and work for three years running, we’re shining a spotlight on the Surrey town of Woking.

If you’re looking for a new home with excellent schooling, handy commuter links to London and plenty of local amenities nearby, then Woking in north west Surrey might just be the perfect location.

In this blog, we are going to share our top five reasons why a move to Woking could be the answer for you.

1. Entertainment in Woking

One of Surrey’s largest towns, there’s lots to do in and around Woking, perfect for families, go-getters and those who like to shop until they drop.

The Lightbox is an award-winning gallery and museum showcasing influential artists, such as Henry Moore and Simon Palmer, as well as hosting comedy nights and open mic poetry nights.

Whilst Brooklands Museum is an aviation and motoring museum, which holds many interesting events throughout the year.

For nearby entertainment, New Victoria Theatre hosts first class performances from the likes of National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare company - a perfect date night in Woking or trip to explore all the shows on offer. To catch the latest blockbusters, Nova Cinema is less than a ten-minute drive from Woking.

For some retail indulgence, Victora Place Shopping Centre has 150+ shops to explore plus street-food stalls and plenty of eating out options to suit everyone. The town centre is pedestrianised with cycle routes along Victoria Way and High Street to the railway station, making it a safe environment for everyone to spend time there.

2. Excellent transport links

Woking is a great location for commuting and exploring surrounding areas, such as  London and the Surrey Hills, thanks to its impressive transport network.

Our new development, Chestnut Fields, is well located for access to the A3 and M25 for all points around and into London. The train station has regular services into London Waterloo, taking approximately 25 minutes, and it will also connect you to Guildford, Reading and Southampton.

If you’re looking for local amenities, you won’t have to travel far as Mayford Village is less than half a mile away with a post office, convenience store, village hall and a family friendly pub, The Drumming Snipe.

3. Education in Woking

Those who have children or are thinking about children in the near future can rest assured that there are recommended schools in Woking.

Barnsbury Primary School and Nursery is minutes away from our new build homes in Woking as is Westfield Primary School.

The town is also home to several further places of education such as colleges and sixth forms, offering a range of courses and qualifications. Hoe Valley Secondary is less than half a mile away, rated outstanding by Ofsted and has a brand-new sixth form. Whilst there’s also Woking College, also rated outstanding and offering one of the top performing sixth forms in the country just a little further from our Chestnut Fields development.

4. Green spaces and parks in Woking

If having green spaces on your doorstep is a must, then Woking will tick all of your boxes. Mayford Meadows Nature Reserve could be the ideal place to walk the dog in the morning whilst Chestnut Pond play park will keep the kids entertained, both only a short stroll away.

Surrey is known for its gorgeous countryside and Woking is no different. Basingstoke Canal is the perfect place for boating, walking, fishing or cycling – whatever you prefer. The stretch of water has tow paths between Hampshire and Surrey providing a delightful walk.

If you’re happy to travel a little further for a family day out, Wisley and Ockham Commons and Chatley Heath offers more than 800 acres of heathland and woodland. It’s worth visiting Semaphore Tower on Chatley Heath, built in 1822, which was once part of a chain used to pass messages between the Admiralty in Whitehall and the Royal Naval Dockyard in Portsmouth. It is now the only restored surviving tower.

For those who enjoy a round of golf, Woking has an impressive 14 golf courses to choose from, including some of Surrey’s best golf clubs, such as West Hill Golf Club and Woking Golf Club.

5. Local events in Woking

The town of Woking is very community-led and features different events throughout the year to keep residents entertained.

The Woking Car Show takes place every September, this year on Sunday 22nd and is free for all. Taking place in the town centre, visitors will be able to view custom-built and iconic cars as well as motorbikes.

Another annual event is the Diwali lantern parade, which usually happens in the winter where visitors can enjoy dance performances and the Festival of Light parade.
