As part of that journey, we recognise the importance of engaging relevant organisations who can help us as well as receiving feedback and tracking progress on the actions we are taking.

Stonewall

As part of Cala's commitment to creating an inclusive business that gives every individual the opportunity to thrive, we have engaged with the LGBTQ+ rights organisation Stonewall to participate in its UK Workplace Equality Index.

The index is a tool that allows employers to assess progress and achievements on LGTBQ+ equality. It focuses on the following categories.

  • Employee policy
  • Employee lifecycle
  • Staff network groups             
  • Allies and role models
  • Senior leadership
  • Monitoring
  • Procurement
  • Customers, service users and clients

The Social Mobility Foundation

The Social Mobility Foundation is a charitable organisation which seeks to improve social mobility for young people in the UK. The Social Mobility Index assesses organisation's progress on social mobility with an overall aim to encourage organisations to share initiatives and progress in inclusive practice. One of the core components of the index is bench-marking employers across the UK to ensure openness to accessing and progressing talent from all backgrounds.

 

Women into Construction (WIC)

We are committed to supporting women in our industry and have signed a Platinum Membership with Women into Construction to help us do this. WIC supports more women into roles in our industry by providing recruitment, development and employability training for females across the country. Our membership provides with a host of resources, recruitment support, training and engagement opportunities to help us reach more women. With access to this, on top of industry specific data and news, we can broaden access to opportunities at Cala.

 

Business in the Community (BITC)

Business in the Community is a business-led membership organisation dedicated to responsible business. BITC work with organisations across the UK to improve employment opportunities for ethnic minorities. The Race at Work Charter forms part of this, taking practical action to ensure we are tackling barriers that ethnic minority people face, and that organisations are representative of communities, customers and British society today.

Cala has signed the Race at Work Charter which involves seven commitments:

  1. Appoint an executive sponsor for Race
  2. Capture ethnicity data and publicise progress
  3. Commit at board level to zero tolerance of harassment and bullying
  4. Supporting equality in the workplace is the responsibility of all leaders and manages
  5. Take action that supports ethnic minority career progression
  6. Support race inclusion allies in the workplace
  7. Include ethnically diverse-led enterprise owners in supply chains

Mental Health at Work Commitment

Cala has signed the Mental Health at Work Commitment, which involves committing to six standards, which involve a series of actions to support and improve the wellbeing of our staff:

  1. Prioritise mental health in the workplace by developing and delivering a systematic programme of activity 
  2. Proactively ensure work design and organisational culture drive positive mental health outcomes 
  3. Increase organisational confidence and capability
  4. Provide mental health tools and support
  5. Promote an open culture around mental health 6. Provide mental health tools and support.

Supporting Military

Cala is a Bronze award holder under The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme. This means we have self-nominated ourselves to support the armed forces, and have also signed the Armed Forces Covenant.
